Michael Hunter runs Twists Glass Studio at Selkirk in the Scottish Borders. He is an artist, educator and author and has been working with glass for over 50 years. His passion for glass started even earlier, after finding an antique filigree marble in his school playground. He went on to work as an apprentice glass blower for Wedgewood Glass and to become one of the UK's leading contemporary glass artists, internationally recognised for his museum-quality works.
"I began experimenting millefiori glass and became spellbound with the intricacies of filigree cane work. That was the moment I found my direction. I now work in 24% lead crystal, with a recycle, reuse and remake policy. I set up Twists Glass Studio with my wife Sue, at Selkirk, 25 years ago and over the years have won many awards, including the British Craft Fair Trade award for excellence. I'm very proud that my work is now in many private and public collections across the world. "
