Ali barden
Working with clay has always been my passion and escape. Even at school, the art room and the pottery were my special havens. I had a wonderful art teacher who lit a lifelong fire in me. After graduating in art and ceramics I went on to teach in primary education. It was only after taking early retirement that I was able to spend more time in my pottery studio., which is based at Hexham, Northumberland. I now spend my time creating small scale ceramic sculpture based on my immediate environment and relationships with the surrounding landscape and family. I like to combine words and poetry with the colours and textures of local land and seascapes, using a variety of techniques, including digital transfer. I also enjoy the somewhat surreal creations of Italian ceramists Bertozzi and Casoni and attempt to reflect the humour and juxtapositions of their work.
I have exhibited work in a variety of settings including the Tower Gallery, the Northumberland Gallery and most recent, a joint exhibition at the BottleWorks in Newcastle.
